African Union (AU) African Ambassadors and Diplomats training programme
Our President, Mrs. Ngozi Oyewole of CBW-Africa, recently participated in a training session at the African Union (AU) focused on African Ambassadors and diplomats accredited by the African Union. Her valuable contributions were aimed at shaping the roadmap for the effective implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) and fostering stronger partnerships with women and stakeholders, contributing to the continent’s economic integration and growth.
The training, organized by the African Capacity Building Foundation, a specialized agency of the African Union, centered around the theme “Promoting the Acceleration and Realization of African Trade and Economic Integration.”
Among the distinguished attendees were Mamadou Biteye OBE, Ambassador Amin Akadiri (Executive Director FEWACCI and Secretary African Business Council), Melaku DESTAR (Coordinator, African Trade Policy Center, UNECA), Trevor Simumba (ACBF), Lejalem Adamu (AeTRADE Group), Lily Somer (International Trade Center, focusing on market intelligence and Trade Promotion/Trade Finance), Dr. Shamiso (All-Africa Association of SMEs – AAASME), Hassan Aline’s (Acting Director of Division of Trade, Department of Trade and Foreign Investment, Ministry of Economy, Azerbaijan), H.E Youssouf Assoumani (Permanent Representative of Comoros to the African Union), H.E Willy Nyamitwe (Permanent Representative of Burundi to the AU), H.E Mohammed Gad (Permanent Representative of Egypt to the AU), H.E Ammah (Permanent Representative of Ghana to the AU), H.E Xolisa (Permanent Representative of South Africa to the AU), H.E Rebecca Amugo Otengo (Permanent Representative of Uganda to the AU), and more.
She also spoke about the partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on empowering women and girls in Africa
The training sessions covered various critical issues, including tariff liberalization, rules of origin, negotiations on trade in goods and services, customs procedures, and success stories related to the AFCFTA implementation.
