Addressing the trade facilitation challenge in the context of the AfCFTA: views from West Africa
Africa needs a more sustainable and inclusive economic development model, which considers the needs of its marginalized groups and places the AfCFTA at the centre of this continental strategy.
But it will need to address the multiple barriers which prevent intra-African trade, especially at the borders.
Very proud of this submission, which draws on more than a decade of regional trade advocacy in West Africa by Borderless Alliance, to summarize the main challenges and suggest actionable solutions to enhance cross-border trade.
Thanks to the African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) for the opportunity, as well as to Nadira Bayat, Nadia Hasham, Lesley A Wentworth and Mahoulé Kpako for their enormous support during this exciting journey. It took a while, but we finally got there and I am most grateful.
Looking forward to building these suggestions into a regional advocacy agenda, to tackle barriers of regional trade across West Africa and beyond.
